ARC FLASH KIT CARE & MAINTENANCE

Caring for Garments

Arc Flash Kit Garments should be thoroughly inspected before every use. If damaged or contaminated such that the protective qualities appear diminished, immediately discontinue use. Some contaminants to look for are, but not limited to oil, grease, combustible materials or flammable liquids. Please store your garments properly and safely when not using to shield them from damaging contaminants.

Repairing

When repairing arc-rated clothing, use arc-rated materials which were utilized to manufacture them.

Laundering

Clean your garments thoroughly. You may dry clean or use a machine wash up to 140 degrees & to 165 degrees for cotton blends. Medium heat for tumble drying should also be used. Do not use chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide separately or contained within detergents. No starch or softeners. Improper laundering may affect your garment’s flame resistance.

Insulated Gloves

Voltage rated gloves need to be tested according to the ASTM F496 Specification for In Service Care for Insulating Gloves & Sleeves.
Voltage rated gloves must always be placed in a storage container while using. Gloves along with leather protectors should be stored in container with fingers pointed toward the container opening. Container must be a clean & dry location.
Leather protector gloves need to be inspected before every use. Surface areas must be inspected to identify cuts & abraded surfaces & replace them if any damage is found. Inspect leather protectors for excess dirt or lubricant. Gloves which are contaminated with any petroleum based lubricant must be discarded.
All rubber insulating glove surfaces must be inspected for any damage which may reduce the insulating capabilities.
Some examples of this type of damage are tears, abrasions, cuts, pitting, depressions, chemical bloom, age cracks, embedded foreign matter, repair marks, punctures, mold marks, runs, color splash, soft spots, ozone cracks or runs. Damaged gloves must be immediately discarded.

Arc Rated Face Shield Care & Maintenance

Face shields must be inspected for the physical integrity & be free from cracks and excessive wear. They should clean for the best vision possible. Cleanse with mild soap and water then dry with a soft cloth. Remove any contaminating residue left on your shield. Store the face shield inside a shield stuff bag in order to protect from scratches and dust.
